    Tsupu Monastery

      The monastery is located in the upstream of Tsupu River which is 60-kilometer away from the west of Lhasa, with an elevation of 4300 meters. It was built in 1189 by Dusun khyenpa, a disciple of the senior monk Dagpo Lhagye from Karma Kargyu Sect. The monastery was reconstructed after the “Cultural Revolution”. With the first Living Buddha recognized by the government after the Cultural Revolution, the monastery once developed fast and now it has 400 Lamas.
      The monastery is the principal temple for of Karma Kagyu, belonging to the White Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Karma Kargyu Sect has a history of more than 800 years, and now it is carried forward by the seventeenth Karmaba. This sect originated the reincarnation system of reincarnation of lama in Tibet, and thus Tibetan Buddhist leaders inherit mysticism started.
